Effective Herbal Skin Care Tips
The “purist” buys medicinal herbs for skin from an herbalist and prepares them according to his or her instructions. Each herb has a specific function. Just as there is no medication that can be used to treat every health problem, there are no “cure-all” herbal skin care products, but there are some that come close.
If you have a specific condition like acne, psoriasis or eczema, you need a specific treatment plan. Likewise, if you have excessive oiliness, dryness or a combination of the two, there are specific products that will help.
Medicinal herbs for skin conditions like acne, for example, may not be very effective unless other steps are taken. For excessive oiliness and acne, cleansing is of the utmost importance.
Daily cleansing should be included in any skincare regimen, but even though it’s popular, exfoliating can aggravate any skin-type. Besides, it is really unnecessary. Dead skin-cells slough off by themselves. You only need gentle daily cleansing to remove them.
If you have acne or excessive oiliness, one of the best cleansers is orange oil. It is extracted from orange peel, so it’s safe for most people. However, it can be a little too strong for some.
If you are on the other end of the spectrum and you have excessive dryness, you may want to try olive oil for cleansing.
Deep cleansing masks will help prevent blackheads and break-outs. The ingredients to look for include clay extracts, primarily kaolin and bentone gel.
Herbal skin care products for cleansing include comfrey or a compound that is extracted from it called allantoin. Practically any herb can be used for cleansing, even regular table salt.
Even if you have a problem with oiliness now, you don’t want to use products that strip too much of your natural oils. Dry skin is more easily damaged and wrinkled. Everyone can use herbal skin care products for daily moisturizing, as long as they choose the right ingredients.
While they aren’t “technically” medicinal herbs for skin problems, grape seed and jojoba oils can be very beneficial. They help to balance sebum production, preventing excessive oiliness and relieving excessive dryness. Babassu wax and passion fruit extract serve the same purpose.
If you are interested in herbal skin care products, you might want to consider honey. Again, it is not technically one of the medicinal herbs for skin conditions, but it has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments, including acne, psoriasis and eczema.
It promotes wound healing, has antibacterial activity and helps to fade scars. Jojoba and honey together have been shown to fade stretch marks and wrinkles. When compared to other herbal skin care products, honey and jojoba always outperform.
But, for anti-aging, the most effective natural product is a protein that is extracted from sheep’s wool. It’s called Functional Keratin and it has been shown to relieve dryness, dermatitis, redness, inflammation and other conditions.
There could be any number of reasons that you need medicinal herbs for skin conditions. This was just a brief overview of some of the most common complaints. Hope it helped!
